Piano Symphonique with Yashar Yaslowitz & Frederic Chiu
April 27, Sunday, 3:00 pm

BEETHOVEN
Symphony No.6 in F major, Op.68 ‘Pastoral’
– Intermission –
Symphony No.5 in C minor, Op.67

These two great symphonies were first performed in a mammoth four hour concert that also includedpremieres of the Choral Fantasy for piano, orchestra, and chorus, and the Piano Concerto No.4 with Beethoven himself as the soloist. There were very few professional orchestras at this time, so Beethoven took advantage of the opportunity to introduce the public to many of his new compositions.

But it was much more common for people living in small towns and villages to hear symphonies performed by pianistsinstead of orchestras. Now you can go back in time and experience Beethoven’s symphonies the way they did as members of a nineteenth century audience.

Yamaha Artist Frederic Chiu has played Liszt’s transcription of Beethoven’s Symphony No.5 over 100 times world-wide. Beethoven’s ‘Fifth’ is paired (no pun intended) with a duet arrangement of the ‘Pastoral’ Symphony, performed with pianist Yashar Yaslowitz.
