Concert III — A Young Genius

A Young Genius features the radiant artistry of flutist Elena Rubin with works by Bach, Beethoven and Newman performed with Series co-artistic director Anthony Newman on piano who will also perform Bach’s Fantasia and Fugue in G minor on the organ.

  • Sonata in B minor (BWV 1030) for flute and piano, J.S. Bach
  • Fantasia and Fugue in G minor for organ, J.S. Bach
  • Partita in C for flute and piano, A. Newman
  • Serenade for Flute and Piano in D major, Op. 41 L.v. Beethoven

Dubbed the “high priest of the harpsichord” by Time magazine, acclaimed keyboardist Anthony Newman is considered America’s foremost Bach interpreter. Over his career he has collaborated with major artists including Wynton Marsalis, Itzhak Perlman, Kathleen Battle, Jean-Pierre Rampal, and Leonard Bernstein.

Up and coming flutist Elena Rubin has appeared at numerous festivals where she has been recognized including the Eastern Music Festival where she was a concerto competition winner. Active as a freelancer and a teacher she received a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory. Recently, she moved to Chicago to continue her studies under the tutelage of Stefán Ragnar Höskuldsson.

South Salem Presbyterian Church is at 111 Spring Street, South Salem, NY. Advanced tickets are $25 for general admission, $40 for preferred seating and $10 for students when purchased in advance on the Series website www.thesanctuaryseries.org ($30/$50/$15 at the door).  All concerts are followed by an artists reception.
